Expressing Christ-likeness

Are You God's Wife?

By Abraham Israel

An eye witness account from New York City, on a cold day in December, some years ago:

A little boy, about 10-years-old, was standing before a shoe store on the roadway, barefooted, peering through the window, and shivering with cold.

A lady approached the young boy and said, "My, but you're in such deep thought staring in that window!"

"I was asking God to give me a pair of shoes," was the boy's reply.

The lady took him by the hand, went into the store, and asked the clerk to get half a dozen pairs of socks for the boy. She then asked if he could give her a basin of water and a towel. He quickly brought them to her.

She took the little fellow to the back part of the store and, removing her gloves, knelt down, washed his little feet, and dried them with the towel.

By this time, the clerk had returned with the socks. Placing a pair upon the boy's feet, she purchased him a pair of shoes. She tied up the remaining pairs of socks and gave them to him. She patted him on the head and said, "No doubt, you will be more comfortable now."

As she turned to go, the astonished kid caught her by the hand, and looking up into her face, with tears in his eyes, asked her . . ."Are you God's wife?"

What can we learn from this inspiring real life moving story saints?

We as the Church are actually betrothed now as virgins who will become the spiritual wife of Jesus in the coming days. In other words, all other people like this little boy should be able to understand that there is something of God seen in us as we live like Christ lived in this world. A wife is a partial reflection of her husband who will get more and more in harmony and one in beat with her husband's tune as time goes on together in life.

Now in the midst of this alien atmosphere of the world system of governance which is ruled by the rebellious thinking of the devil and his followers
(Eph 2:2), we are trained to make a difference by walking and talking pleasing to our bridegroom Jesus and becoming one with Him in His likeness. We are being perfected from one level of glory of Christ to another level each day, as a result of it we are continuously renewed newly day by day and are built up spiritually to be more and more like Christ (2 Cor 3:18; 4:16).

My prayer for all of us is, may we become more and more a reflection of Christ and one in harmony in the likeness of His character, so that when other's see us, may they see Christ in us. So that like the little boy, they may dare to ask the incredible question, "ARE YOU GOD'S WIFE?"

"The proof of God's love is expressed to the dying humanity only when we choose to express it through our good works done towards them because of the love of God burning in our heart and soul." — Abraham Israel
